Maddie lost her first tooth today. She couldn't be more proud! After the torture of being the only one who hasn't lost a tooth, the day has finally come and she is about telling anyone who will stand still long enough to hear it.

Rain, rain go away....or not!!
With all the rain we've been having I decided to make Maddie a rain coat out of some absolutely fabulous fabric. It's made out of Michael Miller Laminate and lined with with 100% woven. I used a swing coat pattern from my all time favorite Whole Grain Baby.
We wore it yesterday and what a show stopper! Even men were commenting on how pretty Miss Thang looked in her rain coat. The best part of it was Maddie would smile, thank them for their compliments and say, "My momma made it, she a very good sewer!"

Maddie's BIG girl room is coming together...FINALLY!
The paintings for Maddie's "BIG GIRL" room finally finished. I put these whimsical mermaids on canvas rather then the walls. I thought about it and decided it would be a shame to eventually have to paint over these cuties...so on canvas they went. Maddie thinks her mom has hung the moon and wants me to teach her how to be an artist. With that the hours of work were worth it!!

The 10 Day Green Smoothie Challenge.
This is the 10th day of the Green Smoothie challenge and I FEEL GREAT! I was skeptical when I stumbled on to this challenge on the Organic Living and Lifestyle Blog. First who can drink spinach and second how can this change the way you feel? Well you can drink spinach and it totally changes the way you feel. Surprisingly it really made me conscious of what I'm eating the rest of the day. I give the green smoothie 2 thumbs up!! Give it a try!!!

And you have a guest room!
After much hard work...my guest room is finished. My inspiration for this room was....NOT TO HAVE TO RE-PAINT IT! I hate painting and I really love the color...so this is what I came up with. I'm very happy with it...VERY!

Phase 1 of Guest Bedroom Makeover....
This room was my daughters room. She is now old enough to be moved upstairs to her "BIG GIRL" room. I decided to remove the carpet and install hand scraped hickory laminate floor. My kids God~Daddy was good enough to teach me how to do it, although I could tell he just wanted to shove me out the door and do it himself. It took a mere 4 hours and it really is beautiful!! FYI..carpet guys sure earn their money...it was pretty tough on the knees...arms...fingers!! I need a nap!!

My First Meal with Garden Fresh Tomatoes!!!
And it was out of sight!!! This is my version of my MIL's wonderful recipe!!!
I made Mexican Soup (Sopa De Albondigas or Meatball Soup). I make this soup a lot because it's a all in one kinda meal and quick to whip up.
1 medium onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
2 tbsp Olive oil
2 cans of beef broth (I use 2 cubes w/2 cups of water)
4 cups of water (I double to add more veggies)
1 large can of tomato sauce (This is from my version)
1 diced tomato (fresh from the garden:-p)
2 medium potatoes (I double, kids love tatoes!)
2 medium carrots (I triple & cut thick)
1 lb of LEAN ground beef (I use Organic less fat)
1/4 cup White rice, uncooked
1 egg
1/4 cup snipped cilantro (I throw the whole bunch in)
1 tsp salt (I use sea)
1/2 tsp oregano (I don't use)
1/8 tsp black pepper (I use fresh)
and I add some Cumin (1 1/2 tsp) and powdered garlic (1 1/2 tsp).
Saute onion and garlic in oil till transparent in large stock pot. Add broth, water, tomato sauce and tomatoes. Bring to a boil then add potatoes and carrots. Simmer till tender.
Mix together ground beef, uncooked rice, egg, cilantro, salt, garlic powder, pepper(,oregano) and cumin. Form into meatballs (we like them on the smaller side) and add to soup. Cook about 20 to 30 minutes and enjoy. Serves 4 with seconds and bowl for my lunch the next day!!!

Maddie's BIG girl room...
It is a sad day indeed....my sweet girl Maddie is growing up soon to be 5. She is coming into her own and has decided she needs a big girl room. And this big girl room needs to be up stairs with her brother. Much to my dismay...she may be right. I have a sneaky suspicion my troubles have just begun!!!
Inspired by Michael Millers Sea Beauties we're off and running.
I made a pattern to match the fabric...trying not to make it to difficult to hand applique.
Pieced it.
Hand (sewing machine really)appliquéd her...Surprisingly it looks like a mermaid pillow.
Viola...Maddie's very happy with it. I'm off to begin machine appliquéing blocks for the quilt, curtains and MORE pillows.

Mare's Salsa.....YuMMO
It's official...My mother-in-law is the worlds best cook! I wanted to share this recipe on my blog because frankly I'm sick of writing down.
1 Large Can of Whole Tomatoes
1 to 2 Chipotles*
1 Teaspoon Garlic Powder
1 1/2 Teaspoon Cumin
1 1/2 Teaspoon of red vinegar
1 Teaspoon Season Salt
Cilantro** to taste
Blend in Blender, grab a bag of Tostitos scoops and enjoy!!
*Use canned chipotles. The cans have a lot in them so I put the unused portions on a plate and freeze them, once their frozen I place them in a ziplock bag for future use.
**I use the whole bunch! Put this in last as it will jam up your blender.
Yeilds about 2 or 3 cups. I freeze in servable size containers for a quick snack!
